Detailed description of Lone Tree Golf Course

Lone Tree Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Antioch, California, an hour east of San Francisco along the San Juaquin River Delta

Lone Tree Golf Course opened in 1934 a nine hole course. Lone Tree was built on open hillsides adjacent to Mount Diablo State Park and was defined by the grassy hills the course was set upon. Nine more holes, designed by Bob E. Baldock were opened in 1957. and through the years various trees were added which gave the course the definition it now knows. In 1990 the decision was made to redo the majority of green complexes to sand based greens, and the task was successfully undertaken. The current greens on holes #12 and 15 are not only from the original construction, but are the two smallest greens on the course requiring golfers to have sharp accuracy.

Lone Tree Golf Course is characterized by rolling fairways that are lined with mature indigeneous trees. At this par-72 layout, the putting surfaces are maintained impeccably and require close observation to down grain break towards "the river". Fairway and greenside bunkers are modest in number, but strategic in position and are purely the finest conditioned bunkers of the area rewarding golfers who demonstrate the skills to handle such hazards. Fairly open from the tee, Lone Tree offers up rewarding scores on many holes for all levels of players keeping the round fun, but a satisfactory final 18 hole score is still well earned. Reasonable green fees make Lone Tree one of the best values in the Bay Area and many golfers choose to walk which makes the round even more affordable.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,427 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5586 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 518 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 117 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 1, a 407 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Lone Tree Golf Course is # 12, a 294 yard par-4.

I play this course every week. I pay $29.00 based on thier club rate. This is pretty cheap. The Staff is great in the Pro shop. Bar people good too. It does play a little wet in the winter but summer is great. We play rain or shine. Makes my week.

Heavy rain has left the course soggy wet in some areas, creating cart path only conditions. Improved drainage would be a great asset. Otherwise, this is a great course to play when dry.

Not bad, but you can play Roddy Ranch, Deer Ridge and Shadow Lakes -- much better courses -- for the same price nearby.

Would travel: 10-20 Miles
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby
